About Lisa
Lisa VanMeter has been a professional printmaker for over a decade. She uses the Color Reduction Method to create her original editions:
One block of bass wood or linoleum is used. The design is drawn on the block. Then Lisa carves out part of the design and inks the block many times, printing it onto a set number of archival papers (the edition). Hand burnishing or a printing press is used to press the ink from the board onto the papers.
As the oil-based ink is drying, the artist cuts more of the design out of the board using wood carving tools. It takes several weeks for the board to be carved out and all of the colors to be layered onto the papers. The edition is then signed and numbered. No others can be made as the colors have been carved out from the block.
Each piece is an original, handmade work of art. Many of Lisa’s editions are now sold out. She works out of her studio at The Harrison Center and sells work at the Art in Hand Gallery in Zionsville, Indiana.
